1. Choose the email to reply

Open the email thread you need to respond to and click ‘Reply.’

2. Open the Extension from the Gmail toolbar

Email thread is auto-loaded: After opening ChatGPT Writer, you will notice that the ChatGPT Writer has automatically picked up all the context from the email thread in the Email context input box. This means that it understands the whole context of the conversation.

3. Briefly enter what you want to reply

In the extension's text input box write how you want the reply to get generated.

4. Generate reply

Click on the Generate button or press enter to generate the response. ChatGPT Writer will generate the response based on the email context.

5. Insert/Copy the email

Once the email is generated, Hover over the generated response to reveal a few quick options below it.

  • Click the Insert option (Blue icon) from the options to copy the reply into the email body and automatically close the extension
  • Click the Copy icon from the options to only copy the generated response.

Regenerate the response if needed:

  • Refine the Response: Enter specific instructions (e.g., ‘rewrite it’ or ‘make the email shorter’) in the same box and click the Generate button again.
  • Regenerate: Hover over the generated response, select Regenerate from the options to create a new version.
  • Edit Directly: Hover over the response, click Edit option, modify it, and use it as a new prompt to generate further responses.

This process helps you create versions that better meet your needs while keeping any previous responses, allowing you to refine the content until you’re satisfied.
